So I heard back from the counsellor and I have an appointment booked for the middle of next week to go in and talk to her about support and resources. In the meantime, I found an online support forum that has some really great information for people have been “been there, done that.” AND, I went to my first Al-Anon meeting on Sunday. I actually felt worse after I went to it, for a number of reasons I’m sure, and I was extremely emotional for the entire thing. But I do think it will be good to surround myself with others who get what I’m going through to some extent because they’ve lived it as well. All the literature says to give Al-Anon at least 6 meetings before deciding if it’s right for you… So that’s what I’m going to do. Sean has booked an appointment with a counsellor as well in early April (not sooner simply because of his work schedule) and I let him know that I would be going to Al-Anon again this Sunday. There is an AA meeting at the same time down the hall, so he has decided that he will go to that.
No huge leaps and bounds. Just baby steps. But right now, that’s enough for me.
